Gracenote is a global leader in the space of digital media recognition, management, enjoyment, and discovery. We are looking for a Product Manager to help launch music-related products for PC and embedded (Consumer Electronics) platforms. During the next several years Gracenote plans to bring numerous new features and products to enhance our current offerings, which include MusicID, Playlist, Playlist Plus, MediaVOCS, Discover, and many more.
It is a great opportunity for a Product Manager to participate in numerous product releases that exhibit the pace and energy of a start-up environment within a proven and disciplined product organization. This individual will work closely with various organizations within Gracenote (other Product Managers, Data Quality staff, Program Management, QA, Client Engineering, DB Engineering, and Service) to ensure success of these products, as well as with Sales, customers and partners in PC, Automotive and Consumer Electronics markets to ensure that requirements are captured and documented.
This position reports to the Director of Product Management, Client Software Solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Product Requirements:
- Assist Product Manager(s) in translating customer requirements into concise and clear product requirements
- Assist in driving cross-functional buy-in to MRD and PRD documents
- Assist in the development and documentation of use cases
- Assist Program Management in building schedule estimates, as well as detailed development schedules
- Review content, metadata and information architecture requirements for new products and new versions of the current product suite.
- Assist in making functionality and content trade-off decisions to ensure timely delivery of products that meet market needs.
- Partner with Marketing to translate technical features into customer value propositions; define messaging and create product white papers, one-sheets, press releases, flash presentations, and other marketing collateral.
- Train Sales and Support teams, and participate in the sales process as required.
- Team with Professional Services to work closely with customers to ensure their success.
Competitive, Technology and Market Research & Analysis:
- Research target markets, emerging technologies, and potential competition and perform competitive product benchmarking and feature analysis.
- Establish efficient feedback processes to gather developer and end-user feedback from Sales, Professional Services and Developer Support teams, customers, industry partners, and user surveys.
- Analyze competitive landscape by monitoring the development and adoption of competitive solutions.
Product Strategy and Planning:
- Oversee requirements gathering and product specification for both new products and enhanced versions of existing products
- Help define and communicate a coherent product vision and strategy, value proposition, use cases, and positioning for each product, both internally and externally.
- Help to identify and develop strategic relationships that support product development goals
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- BS/BA degree, or equivalent with 1-3 years of experience in software or hardware product management, product marketing, application engineering or program management is a plus
- Experience in the digital media technologies, software development or consumer electronics industries is a plus
- International experience is a plus, especially Japan, Korea, China or non-UK Europe.
Skills & Knowledge

- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and present highly professional, effective presentations for both business and technical audiences.
- Must be, or become, an expert in communicating effectively and authoritatively in the areas of software applications and consumer electronics products that enable the delivery/consumption of digital music and media. Strong relevant experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of digital music software, Internet services and/or consumer electronics is preferred.
- Knowledge of entertainment media metadata and information architecture principles is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with in-home entertainment devices (DVRs, Tivos, Home Theater Systems, Media Servers, streaming devices, etc) preferred
